‘Rajshri is really lucky for me’
Renuka Shahane makes a comeback to the small screen after almost eight years with Rajshri Productions’ Mere Rang Me Rangne Waali
Renuka Shahane
Renuka Shahane as Pooja bhabhi in the ‘90s’ blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, became a household name. She also made an impact with her television shows like Imtihaan, Sailaab among others. Now, as the actor has made a comeback with Mere Rang Me Rangane Waali on Life OK, she says she is loving the feeling, specially to be reunited with her co-actors that include Alok Nath, Mahesh Thakur and of course with Sooraj Barjatya, who is producing the show, with whom she has worked before.
“Some time back, the production house was asking me to do a long running role in the show, but it wasn’t possible for me to take up a daily show that requires me day in and out. Then, they offered me a cameo and I took it up immediately,” says Shahane, who is “a listener to the narrator. My character is not required to be there all the time,” adds Shahane, who plays mother to the lead protagonist’s (Pronali Ghogare) best friend.
According to the actor, the best part about the show that went on air last week, is that it looks at marriage differently. “The story begins with an accidental marriage. Like any other Rajshri production, nobody is wrong, it’s the circumstances. That’s the beauty of the show because in today’s time, there’s a lot of negativity in the television shows all around. It is not a good influence,” says Shahane, who doesn’t mind if her track in the show goes on for a little longer. “I am also a lawyer, and as the story moves further, I may be required to play that part as well,” she informs.
When she did her last show, Jeete Hain Jiske Liye in 2007, it was her first brush with the daily soaps and she couldn’t manage it that well. “It was a horrible experience as I had done only weeklies before that,” says the actor, who is making a comeback after nearly eight years and thinks that the industry has changed for good. “It looks more organised now. Plus. since it’s a Rajshri show, it would be without any negative track, it’s really a plus point for me,” she remarks as she looks ahead for a great inning.
