Under the scalpel

Govinda almost balked when shooting a scene which required him to have lines drawn on his body

Govinda plays a superstar in Happy Ending and playing one meant he had to do things which stars do in real life. And there was one scene in the film which shows him going under the knife!
The scene, recalls director Raj Nidimo, had Govinda in a tizzy. It was a hilarious one, where he goes to the plastic surgeon to get an evaluation of how his body could be toned into a better shape.
“Govinda knew about the scene, but didn’t know that it entailed the surgeon drawing lines on different parts of his body to show where the surgery could be done. So when the AD approached him with a marker, he was like ‘yeh kya kar rahe ho? I don’t draw these kind of things on my body’. The assistant came running to tell me that Govinda has refused to draw lines on his body and, my reaction was, ‘Oh God really’! After I explained to him that the scene would not look authentic without the lines, did he reluctantly agree. But once the scene was shot and he saw it, he had a good laugh,” said Nidimoru.
Nidimoru also reveals since the actor was facing the camera after a long hiatus, he was anxious when he arrived on the sets the first day. But he soon started displaying his brilliance and expertise and was mostly bang on with his scenes. “The first line Govinda had to mouth was ‘Main single screen ka superhero hoon’ and the ice was immediately broken! He soon began enjoying the shoot as the experience of facing the camera once again was quite exciting. He was very involved and would show us several variations for every scene,” said Nidimoru.
Happy Ending is produced by Illuminati Films and Eros International and also stars Saif Ali Khan, Ileana D’Cruz and Kalki Koechlin. It releases on November 21.
