Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly has been removed from Netflix following Illayraja’s copyright lawsuit

Illayaraja, known for his litigious nature and strict compliance with copyright laws, had filed a complaint against the producers Mythri Movie Makers in April. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the legendary composer demanded compensation of Rs 5 crore from the makers for the inclusion of his three songs without his consent; Ottha Ruba Tharen, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Idho Idho being the songs used as needle drops in the film. Good Bad Ugly, which has a release this March, has a fairly good run at the box office, taking in a total of Rs. 248 crores at the global box office, although there was criticism for the film’s overt tribute video-like aesthetics.

According to Hindustan Times, Good Bad Ugly producers were asked by Justice N Senthilkumar earlier this month to remove the concerned Illayaraja songs from the movie to continue it’s streaming run. This is what seems to have led Netflix to temporarily pulling the film from its streaming platform for now. There has been no official confirmation from Netflix regarding the recent removal of the film.
