Dhanush had a lukewarm 2023 with just one release, Vaathi (Sir in Telugu). The film, which was promoted in Tamil and Telugu as a social drama, didn't yield the expected result. However, the actor is starting 2024 with a much-anticipated movie, Captain Miller. The director of the film, Arun Matheshwaran, already has a cult following for his two revenge action dramas Rocky and Saani Kaayidham. With Captain Miller, he has received a bigger canvas, and it has to be seen if he can make things work in the mainstream arena as well. Arun's films are known for their violence and brilliant cinematography. While the trailer confirmed that the quality of the camera work will be retained in Captain Miller, the director, in an interview with Indianexpress.com, revealed the movie wouldn't have the same amount of violence as his previous films. Arun Matheshwaran said, "It (Captain Miller) is more of a mainstream film. It is my least violent film (laughs). For obvious reasons of course. It is bigger than my previous ventures and I am working with a star. And he comes with baggage and his fanbase. Also, I can’t just make it for his fans because it has to be profitable for the producer as well. So, it will be something that will connect with the masses." Captain Miller is a periodic drama about a British soldier turning into a vigilante after witnessing the brutality of men in power. Other than Dhanush, the film has Shivarajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan, Sundeep Kishan, Edward Sonnenblick and John Kokken in important roles. GV Prakash has composed the music for the movie. The cinematography is handled by Siddhartha Nuni, who is currently working with Vijay in The Greatest of All Time.
