Actor Karthi was also with him during the visit. Later speaking to the media, Suriya said, "The guilt that I couldn't see his face for the one last time is going to be around for a lifetime in me and Karthi. I learnt a lot from him and I have been following a lot seeing him. He told me to sit only on a wooden chair, and I follow it till today. on the sets, there is a chair that is similar to what he was using. It is a huge loss for us and no one can fill his void. Something should be done in the memory of him in the film industry, and I hope it is announced soon. I thank the media for bringing back so many good memories about him. Amidst all negativity, it is heartening to see such good things." Along with Suriya, his father Shivakumar also paid his last respects to Vijayakanth. Suriya and Vijayakanth acted together in the film Periyanna (1999). Captain played an extended cameo in the film, which was directed by SA Chandrasekar. It was Vijayakanth's kind gesture to help bring in more publicity for Suriya. He earlier did the same thing for Vijay by doing an extended cameo Sendhoorapandi. Vijayakanth passed away on December 28 after suffering from Coronavirus infection. He was admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai, where he breathed his last.
