The story of Osho has been with me way before Wild Wild Country premiered: Shakun Batra

There has been a speculation that Aamir Khan and Alia Bhatt would be cast as Osho and Ma Anand Sheela in the project. Shakun Batra, however, did not comment on the rumour, saying there is still time for the project to take a shape.

Weeks after Netflix’s highly acclaimed documentary Wild Wild Country premiered in March, reports surfaced that director Shakun Batra was developing a web series on the life of Osho aka Rajneesh.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Batra addressed the reports and also revealed how the story of Osho happened

to him.

“It has been on my mind way before Wild Wild Country happened. I grew up listening to Osho because my father was a believer. So, it has been with me for a long time,” Batra said.

Because the story is personal to him, perhaps that explains why the director said, “It’s a project and a story I am very keen on. Let’s put it that way. It’s an ambitious story.”

There has been a speculation that Aamir Khan and Alia Bhatt would be cast as Osho and Ma Anand Sheela in the project, to be backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

Batra, however, did not comment on the rumour, saying there is some time for the project to take a concrete shape.

“Those are all rumours. We will have to wait for things to take shape and for even the project to be confirmed,” he said.

Batra’s last feature, Kapoor and Sons (2015) and his directorial debut, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012), both have been backed by Johar’s Dharma Productions.
