The police, however, claimed that no one was injured in the shootout.Bareilly SSP Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan suspended six cops including the in-charge of the Izzatnagar police station following a daring shootout along the Bareilly-Pilibhit state highway on Saturday morning.
Two persons reportedly sustained bullet injuries in the shootout that continued for nearly 30 minutes over a ‘disputed’ marble shop. Vehicular traffic on both sides of the highway came to a grind with trigger-happy miscreants going berserk in broad daylight.
The police, however, claimed that no one was injured in the shootout.
“The situation is totally under control and none has sustained injury in the morning shootout,” said Deputy SP (Third), Bareilly, Anita Chauhan.
Marble shop owner Aditya Upadhyay and his son have been arrested and their licensed weapons have been seized. The other faction led by local builder Rajiv Rana managed to escape. The police, though, have seized a luxury car owned by Rana.
Eyewitnesses said that Rana along with over three dozen henchmen carrying weapons swooped down on the shop around 7 am on Saturday. They brought two JCB machines and damaged a major portion of the shop. After being informed of the attack, Aditya Upadhyay rushed to the site with his supporters and both factions opened fire at each other. Aditya Upadhyay’s supporters also set one of the JCB machines on fire.
“FIRs have been lodged by both factions at the Izzatnagar police station… We have formed three special teams to arrest the main accused Rana and his henchmen. The culprits are being identified through available video footage,” said the SSP.
