Chhattisgarh CM meets HM Amit Shah to discuss operations against Maoists

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi Tuesday evening and discussed the state government’s efforts to uproot Maoism from the state, accelerate Bastar’s development, and promote tourism and economic activities in the region in the southern part of the state.

Sai is learnt to have told Shah that Maoism is “in its last phase” in Chhattisgarh, and that joint efforts by the state and central governments have significantly weakened Maoist organisations.

The Chief Minister said that the state’s new Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy-2025 has begun to show results, and 19 naxals, including nine carrying rewards on their heads, recently surrendered in Bijapur district in order to return to the mainstream. He added that the state government was providing financial assistance and rehabilitation schemes to surrendered naxals to rehabilitate them in society.

Apprising Shah about development projects in Bastar, Sai said that the government was strengthening education, healthcare, roads, electricity, and water infrastructure in the region. Additionally, plans were discussed to promote Bastar’s cultural heritage and natural beauty at both national and international levels to promote tourism.

The CM told Shah that initiatives such as skill development, self-employment, and new job opportunities are being created to integrate the youth of Bastar into the mainstream.
