CBSE revises weightage of marks for summative assessments

Nevertheless,the Board has said the previous weightage system would continue for candidates who appear for Class X next year.

According to the CCE scheme,an academic session was divided into two terms and both the terms had two formative assessments (FA) and one summative assessment (SA). Earlier,the two terms used to carry a weightage of 40 and 60 per cent respectively. But now,after the new announcement made by the CBSE,the two terms will get equal weightage of 50 per cent each.

According to the CCE,instead of an annual written examination, students must be assessed through the academic session with the aid of various projects,quizzes,assignments,class tests and co-curricular activities.

The formative assessment (FA) can be conducted through multiple modes of assessment such as assignments,quizzes,debates,group discussions and projects,whereas summative assessment (SA) is a written,end-of-term examination consisting of objective type,short-answer and long-answer questions.

Meanwhile,the weightage for the formative assessments in both the terms will remain the same. The four formative assessments in an academic year (FA1,FA2 in first term,FA3 and FA4 in second term) will continue getting 40 per cent of the total weightage. The summative assessments will now receive 60 per cent of the total weightage in an academic year.
