Attacking the government during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, the Congress on Monday demanded a discussion on the country’s foreign policy.

Raising the issue, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “Several questions have been raised about the country’s foreign policy… Consider this, elections were conducted in Maldives, where people who had raised slogans like ‘Bharat ko bahar rakho’, ‘Bharat ko hatao’ (keep India out, send India back) — have won the elections. This has happened in Maldives. We should pay attention to this, because this is a strategic island… China is taking over steadily.”

Chaudhury also flagged the issue of eight Navy officials who have recently been sentenced to death by a court in Qatar. “What is the government doing, we do not know,” he added.

On the China-Pak corridor, Chowdhury asked, “What is happening in PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir)? China and Pakistan are building a corridor. We claim that we will bring back PoK there, but there is a 3,000 km (corridor) passing through PoK.”

Mentioning that India’s relation with Canada have worsened, he said, “Even the USA has said that the US Justice Department had announced in November that it arrested a man who was allegedly working to assassinate someone. It is said that our Foreign Ministry has sent a memo to someone,” he said.

Referring to the Israel-Hamas war, he added, “We do not even know what our stand on Israel-Hamas is. It is very strange that we do not get information about our foreign affairs… There should be an open discussion on our foreign policy in the House.”

Chowdhury said that “India has reached the last phase of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance. So, a detailed discussion should be held on external affairs in the House”.
