Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy Monday inaugurated the second-longest flyover in the city and named it in honour of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently. The 4.04 km long six-lane bidirectional flyover, which connects Nehru Zoo Park and Aramghar, was built at a cost of Rs 799.74 crore.

The Bill to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh was passed during Dr Manmohan Singh’s term as the PM and thus, he holds a special place in Telangana.

Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said his government was ready to provide funds for development. “The responsibility of completing the work lies with the public representatives. This is not an old city but the original city and original Hyderabad. The government will take up the construction of a cable bridge over Mir Alam Tank and develop it as the most attractive tourist spot,” he said, adding that Telangana will develop further once the Regional Ring Road work is completed.

He said, “We are ready to join hands and work in tandem with everyone for the development of Hyderabad. We will move forward with the AIMIM for city development. We pursue politics only during the elections and move together with everyone for Hyderabad’s development. Development must become a people’s movement.” The foundation stone for the construction of Osmania Hospital at Goshamahal will be laid soon, he added.

IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi were present along with the chief minister.

The Telangana Legislative Assembly recently requested the Union Government to confer Bharat Ratna on Dr Singh. The state Assembly also resolved to install a statue of Dr Singh at a prominent place, like the Financial District, in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
