Briefly Region: HC seeks list of land released from acquisition

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Haryana government while hearing a petition filed by 12 residents of Garhi Bohar village of Rohtak district who have challenging the transfer of 42 acre land to create Sanvindhan Sthal,a memorial to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s father Ranbir Singh Hooda. The petitioners had submitted that the the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) had acquired 42 acres in their village in 2008-2009 to develop an industrial township but later transferred it arbitrarily for the Savindhan Sthal.

Panel to look into medical negligence

CHANDIGARH: To curb incidents of violence by patients’ kin at hospitals and to deal with cases of medical negligence,the Karnal police — in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) — has constituted a committee of doctors. A statement released by the Karnal police stated that there have been cases when after the death of a patient,the victim’s kin create ruckus and resort to violence,sometimes attacking the doctors and other hospital staff. “This is nothing but a crime. In case,any person has any complaint against a private hospital doctor or staff,the person can approach the police or the IMA. A committee comprising of 11 members has been constituted,which has been named as Reconciliation Committee. The complaints will be redressed,” a Karnal police spokesperson said.

3 of a family found dead in Gurgaon

CHANDIGARH: Three members of a family were found strangled to death at their residence in Gurgaon’s Bhauna Kalan village on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Ramwati (50),her daughter-in-law Sharmila (26) and Sharmila’s daughter Neeti (2). “It appears to be a case of murder and the killer may have tried to project it as suicide. Sharmila’s husband,Rajesh,a jawan in the Army has been detained as a suspect,” said Gurgaon DCP Maheshwar Dyal.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia has summoned the Vidhan Sabha to meet on August 24. A notification to this effect was issued on Tuesday by Vidhan Sabha Secretary Sumit Kumar.

Award to prevent water wastage

CHANDIGARH: To prevent water wastage and maintain cleanliness,the Haryana government’s water and sanitation wing will give cash prizes to all those panchayats ensuring installation of taps at all private and public water connections. Panchayats will be awarded where 75 per cent of homes have approved private drinking water connections. While villages with a population of 2,000 will get a prize of Rs 20,000,those with 3,000 people will get Rs 30,000.
