Indias largest exhibition for commercial and homeland security,IFSEC India 2011,opened at the national capital today.
The three day event is organised by UBM,was inaugurated by Union Home Minister,P Chidambaram and D R Kaarthikeyan, chairman,ASSOCHAMs National Council on Installations,Premises & Personnel Security (IPPS).
Inaugurating the event,Kaarthikeyan said,Terrorism is always changing. The way I am looking at terrorism today,is not the way I looked at it yesterday. Security is a very difficult topic. Security is everybody’s business. It will be achievable only with everyone’s cooperation,an intelligent policy, and consistent practices.
The security industry, which has been growing in India at 25 per cent over the past 5-7 years, would achieve a growth rate of 125 per cent by 2012. India’s Private Security Agency (Regulation) Act of 2005 has also aided industry growth and it is expected to touch Rs 50,000 crore as security becomes top priority for India.
With the mushrooming of shopping malls, special economic zones,self-contained townships,IT parks and other exclusive facilities, demand for private security services in India is expected to soar over the coming years. The private sector corporates have increased their spending on safeguards after the Mumbai terror strikes, which have been repeatedly occurring in India. The industry body,ASSOCHAM says, that corporates are likely to scale up their security budgets by 35-40 per cent.
