A day after Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde asked Punjab government to “introspect before taking a decision on Operation Bluestar memorial”,Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia termed the statement as “unfortunate and added that former has not been properly briefed about the project.

“The statement has clearly been issued without studying the details of the monument project and it is clear that he (Shinde) has not been properly briefed,” Majithia said. “The memorial intends to house a gurdwara, bereft of any photographs and it will be a symbol of peace and universal brotherhood. Parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib would be done in the gurdwara and if any Congressmen has an objection, then it is nothing but a projection of their distorted psyche.”

Urging urging the Congress “not to politicise the issue” and avoid saying anything that would “derail the hard-earned peace in Punjab,Majithia said the the Opposition party was raising a hue and cry over a purely religious issue only to divert the people’s attention from the mind-boggling scams that have hit the UPA.

Punjab Congress had opposed the setting up of the memorial. The BJP too opposed the plan.
