Nagpur District Bar Association president Sudip Jaiswal on Friday allegedly slapped a police constable on the premises of District and Sessions Court after the constable allegedly misbehaved with a woman lawyer over parking of vehicles.
Sudip Jaiswal,a criminal lawyer allegedly slapped constable Prakash Parate thrice after an argument with him over alleged hauling up of a woman lawyer over parking of her vehicle. Commissioner of Police Ankush Dhanvijay said,We have a video clip showing Jaiswal slapping the constable. We have booked him for assault.
Dhanvijay said,We have tightened security after the recent incident of two parties clashing in the courtroom. All that the constable did was ask the woman to park at the designated place. She called up Jaiswal, who abused the constable and slapped him, accusing him of using foul language while talking to the woman. Can a constable really do that to a woman lawyer? Earlier too,Jaiswal was involved in a similar incident with a police officer on the same court premises,he added.
The lawyers then took to the street and protested against the police. We have also booked them for assembling without permission, said Dhanvijay.
Jaiswal said,The police are telling half-truth by showing the clip. The woman lawyer was attending a phone call standing near her vehicle, when the constable misbehaved with her over parking. When she asked him to behave,he started shouting at her saying she is free to do anything she can and used indecent words. When she came to me,I asked the constable politely what the issue was. He started shouting at me too and used indecent words. So,I too raised my voice. When he raised his stick at me,I just pushed him away. I didnt slap,I only pushed him. I didnt use bad words. Why did he provoke me in the first place?
Dhanvijay said,If the lawyer gives a complaint against the constable,we will act against him after proper inquiry.
Jaiswal said,If no action is taken against the constable till Tuesday,we will launch a hunger strike.
