Trinamool seeks Cong intervention to restrain Adhir

"Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury's behaviour is not acceptable," Trinamool leader Sultan said.

Trinamool Congress wanted the Congress high command’s intervention to ‘restrain’ Murshidabad Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury,a vocal critic of the party’s alliance with Trinamool Congress, saying his behaviour was not acceptable.

“Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury’s behaviour is not acceptable. Congress high command must intervene to restrain him,” Union Minister of State for Tourism and Trinamool leader Sultan Ahmed said.

He said TC chief Mamata Banerjee had raised the issue with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and told him that this is not acceptable.

Chowdhury is opposing Trinamool candidates in four seats in Murshidabad and has asked Mamata to withdraw her party candidates from those seats.

However,Ahmed said the alliance with Congress is “working fine” and hoped that it would sweep the elections.

“We are going to get all anti-CPI(M) votes as the voters are totally polarised in the state”,he said.

Accusing the ruling Left Front of neglecting minorities,he said “for the last 34 years they did nothing for Muslims in the state whereas Trinamool manifesto has promised to implement recommendations of Sachaar Committee and Ranganath Committee for the welfare and upliftment of minorities.”

On Trinamool MP K D Singh being caught with Rs 57 lakh cash at IGI airport,Ahmed said “Singh is an industrialist. He has tea gardens and business interests in Assam. He has given a reply to EC which is a statutory body looking into it. So,

we should not comment on this and the party has nothing to do with it.”

Denying any nexus with Maoists,he said “Naxals have a right to vote. If they want to vote for TMC,we can’t do anything. But we have no nexus with them.”

Congratulating the government for taking an early decision on the Lokpal bill issue,Ahmed said “this is good for democracy.”

However,he said “In 2008 Mamta had sat on hunger strike for 28 days but chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee did not send an emissary even once.”

On TC MP Dinesh Trivedi offering to resign in support of Anna Hazare,Ahmed said “he did it out of emotion and there is nothing serious about it. There is no dissent on it within the party.”
