Action sought against cops for ‘torturing’ Christians

As per memorandum, the group was forced to vacate their paying guest accommodation and leave the city overnight.

Members of the Christian community, Sadbhav Manch, an inter-faith dialogue platform and human rights activists Friday wrote to the Jaipur police commissioner seeking suspension and arrest of  constables who allegedly assaulted 20 members of the Hebron Church of Hyderabad in the state capital on Wednesday .

The group of 20 Christian priests and evangelists got into a scuffle with local Right-wing workers and were taken to the Mansarovar police station where they were allegedly beaten up. No FIR is lodged yet. The memorandum also sought the conversion of the complaint into an FIR. As per memorandum, the group was forced to vacate their paying guest accommodation and leave the city overnight.

“We are shocked that the Mansarovar police station blatantly indulged in custodial violence against members from the Hebron Church of Hyderabad. It is clear to us that at the behest of the Hindutva communal forces, who hurled abuses and barged into the house in Shanti Nagar, Gurjar ki Thadi, where they were staying, the police carried out this action,” the letter said.

“It is ironical that instead of bringing the law breakers to the police station, they pushed these representatives of the Hebron Church in two jeeps and kicked and pushed them on reaching the police station.”
