Bihar expedites verification drive

The Indian Express on Thursday reported how some teachers received B.Ed degrees dating back to years before their birth

The Bihar human resource department on Thursday asked all district education officers to submit a list of teachers who allegedly procured jobs on the basis of forged Bachelor of Education degrees.

The Indian Express on Thursday reported how some teachers received B.Ed degrees dating back to years before their birth, just to qualify in the seniority list. The state education department in its internal inquiry had found that at least 100 candidates allegedly procured forged B.Ed degrees or had mismatch dates on their educational and professional certificates.

The state government, that has already ordered a probe into forged degree scam, on Thursday asked the HRD to expedite the process of verification of educational and professional degrees of both contractual and regular teachers appointed between 2006 and 2012.

All district education officers now will have to submit monthly updates on the action taken against teachers who got jobs on basis of forged degrees.

Chaynit Abhyarthi Shikshak Sangh (selected teachers association) president Bijendra Singh said: “We wonder what is preventing the state from dismissing over 100 teachers, some of whom produced fake degrees and mocked at our education system. We demand action against even those who appointed such teachers.”
