A week after communal clashes occurred in Tauru in Mewat district of Haryana, the body of a 55-year-old Muslim farmer was found with stab injuries Tuesday in the field in a village just 4 km from the town. The district administration was quick in sending reinforcements to the forces already deployed in the region to keep situation under control. Senior police officials along with the SDM reached Nizampur village and tried to convince the villagers that the murder of Mohd Usman had nothing to do with the last week’s clashes.

As words spread, hundreds of villagers gathered at the site and alleged that Usman’s killing was related to last week’s clashes. Local politicians assembled at the site, refusing to allow the police to take the body. A meeting was held between the villagers, the SDM and the DSP late in the evening, after which the police assured villagers of swift investigation.
“The police told us that my father’s body had to be rushed to the hospital for post mortem. They claim that it is only after the post mortem that the truth about the accused persons will emerge. We will again protest outside the police headquarters if no arrests is made,” said Khurshid.
SP (Nuh) Simerdeep Singh denied that Usman’s death was related to the clashes. “This is a totally different case which should not be linked to what happened last week. This looks like a case of personal enmity. We have registered a case under section 302 and are investigating it. No arrests have been made till now.”
On May 8, Danveer, 21, was run over by a dumper in Tauru town, after which irate locals thrashed the driver and the helper of the dumper. Rumour spread in the town that the locals, mostly Hindus, had killed the duo following which clashes broke out between the two communities. The police have registered 14 cases in connection with the violence that followed the clashes.
