Bring IGI noise levels within Intn’l stds,HC to DGCA

The court pulled up the regulatory body,the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for seeking two years time to implement the directions and asked it to take steps immediately to bring noise levels in accordance with international standards.

The court passed the order on a batch of petitions filed by local residents and patients and hospitals authorities in Vasant Kunj area for a direction to the government and the airport authority to take steps to reduce noise pollution caused by aircraft on runways 11 and 29.

The DGCA assured the court that all necessary steps were being taken for reducing noise levels and it was holding talks with the aircraft manufacturers for the purpose.

It said that instruments have been set up at five locations around the airport to measure the noise levels and a redress call facility has been put in place to address the complaints of the people.

Earlier,the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) had told the court that as the Commonwealth Games were approaching,repairs on runway no 28 had to be completed before commencement of the event and runways 11 and 29 were to be used for landing and take off.

In view of DIAL’s plea the court had allowed night landings on runway 11 and 29.
