Bru tribes
No displaced Bru tribal yet again turned up to be verified in the ongoing repatriation process for the second straight day at Khakchangpara relief camp in Tripura.
The Mizoram government’s counter at the relief camp, which began functioning on Monday, has so far remained visitor-less just like that set-up at the Kaskau relief camp earlier this month.
According to an agreement between the Centre, Mizoram and Tripura, the displaced Brus are being given a final chance to return home to Mizoram from Tripura under a formal repatriation process that will afford them compensation packages and land to resettle in.
So far, none of them have turned up to be verified at designated counters to prove their eligibility to return home (they have to first show supporting documents showing they lived in Mizoram before the tribe fled the state en-masse in 1997 following ethnic violence).
Mamit District Deputy Commissioner Vanlalngaihsaka said no one turned up at the verification counter for the second straight day at Khakchangpara, one of six relief camps and the second to be covered under the ongoing repatriation process.
He added the counter would remain open till Wednesday as planned.
