Refusing to budge from its stance in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, the CBI earlier this week provided “clarifications” and additional reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a bid to secure sanction to prosecute four Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, including its former Special Director Rajinder Kumar.

“When the CBI had sought sanction to prosecute the four IB officers in the Ishrat Jahan case, the Home Ministry had asked for some additional reports and clarifications. These have been sent to the MHA a few days ago, and the CBI has reiterated its stand seeking prosecution against the IB officers,” a CBI source said.

The MHA and the CBI have been at loggerheads over granting sanction to prosecute the four IB officials. The MHA had sought certain documents, saying examination of the material was necessary before taking a call on granting sanction.
