The CBI on Thursday questioned former coal secretary P C Parakh for nearly 7 hours in connection with alleged irregularities in grant of a coal block to Hindalco.
Parakh, who has been called for questioning again on Friday, did not elaborate on what he was asked. “There is nothing to say. They had questions to ask and will carry on tomorrow,” he said.
CBI sources said Parakh was given access to all documents related to the case and explained each and every process. The agency said they have not been able to establish any quid-pro-quo in the case and through questioning will try to get some leads.
Parakh said he had no complaints about the questioning process. “The idea of questioning is to understand. I am in the process of making them understand. They have a point of view. I am trying to put my point of view,” he said.
He had alleged in his recent book that when he was approached during preliminary stages of the inquiry, he was surprised to see inspector-level officers with no experience involved in the process.
Parakh, who retired as Coal Secretary in December 2005, has been accused in a CBI FIR of abusing his official position to grant a coal block to Hindalco, an Aditya Birla Group company. The CBI had served fresh summons to him after Parakh expressed inability to appear before the agency on April 25.
