The CBI has forwarded the Enforcement Directorate’s request to the Interpol for issuing a red corner notice (RCN) against former IPL chief Lalit Modi, sources confirmed on Thursday. “ED’s Mumbai office had approached the CBI for issuance of an Interpol RCN against Lalit Modi. We have processed the request after due verification and legal scrutiny, and have sent the necessary documents to Interpol in this connection,” said a CBI source. Earlier this month, a non-bailable warrant was issued against Modi by a Mumbai court in connection with a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) being pursued by the ED. The PMLA case is based on a criminal complaint filed by the BCCI in 2010, accusing Modi of misappropriation of funds during his tenure as IPL chief. [related-post] The ED has sought details from Modi on his role in the deal between World Sports Group, Mauritius and Multi Screen Media Singapore (MSMS). According to the ED, in 2008, BCCI awarded 10-year media rights to WSG India for $ 642 million and MSMS for $276 million. In March 2009, Modi terminated the contract with MSMS for violating some rules and signed a fresh agreement with WSG Mauritius without following any tender process. According to the ED, Modi was not authorised to terminate the media rights contract with MSMS.
