Civilian injured in grenade attack

A 25-year-old civilian was critically injured when militants made an abortive attempt to target a CRPF picket with a grenade in Sopore town.

A 25-year-old civilian was on Friday critially injured when militants made an abortive attempt to target a CRPF picket with a grenade in Sopore town in Jammu and Kashmir,police said.

Unidentified militants hurled the grenade towards the CRPF picket in the north Kashmir town,55 kms from here,the police spokesman said.

The grenade,however,missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside,injuring a pedestrian Tanvir Ahmad Itoo of Nowpora village.

Itoo,who suffered splinter injuries in his arms,head and shoulder,has been admitted to SMHS hospital here,he said.

After the grenade attack,police assisted by CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the militants.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
