Class IX student killed over FB post

The boy’s parents have not lodged a complaint but they police have registered a murder case and started investigation.

A class IX student was killed after a scuffle with his classmates over some remarks he allegedly made on social-networking site Facebook. The LB Nagar police has registered cases against seven minors for allegedly hitting the 14-year-old student of Nagajuna school, G Pravin, which eventually led to his death.

Inspector E Srinivas said Pravin was walking home along with two others on Saturday evening when seven boys accosted them and picked a fight with Pravin.

“The boys accused Pravin of using fake accounts and posting remarks on their Facebook pages. During the argument, one boy hit him on the temple, following which he (Pravin) collapsed. He was taken to the hospital by passers-by where he was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

It appeared as though the victim and his attacker were friends and used to frequently communicate via Facebook, he added. But his friend, who is also a minor, objected to some comments made which led to a nasty exchange between the two. “I think they intended to slap and scare Pravin, but things went wrong and the boy died at the spot. All those involved are juveniles and study in different schools,’’ Inspector Srinivas said.

The boy’s parents have not lodged a complaint but they police have registered a murder case and started investigation.
