Complete shutdown observed across Kashmir Valley

A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir Valley on Saturday as a mark of protest against the government’s plan to create “composite townships” in Kashmir Valley for the Kashmiri Pandits.

The shutdown call was given by separatist leadership including Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik.

Fearing protest demonstrations, authorities have deployed additional security personnel in the Srinagar city and other parts of valley.

In Srinagar, while the government offices are witnessing a thin attendance, most of the shops are closed and the public transport is off the roads.

The shutdown is being observed in other parts of valley, where the business establishments are closed and there is less public transport is plying on the roads.

On Friday, at-least 10 people were injured after clashes between the protesters and the security personnel erupted in Maisuma locality of Lalchowk, soon after police foiled a protest march and detained JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik who was leading the protest.
