Asked why other developers were spared, deputy city engineer (western suburbs) Jitendra Gupta said,“The commissioner had himself set the Cooper Hospital revamp deadline. Deadlines for the other projects were set by the department. We permit a few months extension to every project.” He said there were serious impediments in other projects.

Another delayed project is a Rs 114.86-crore revamp of Shatabdi Hospital,Kandivali, again by Unity Infrastructure.

Phase I of the revamp began in 2006 and phase II in August last year. Deadline for the project was June 2,2013,but only 85 per cent of work has been completed so far.

Gupta said the project would be completed by August 15 but Unity Infrastructure will not be fined for the delay.

The remaining six delayed projects are revamp of a garden in Santacruz by Walson Developers,Trauma Hospital,Jogeshwari, and Maajas Market by Relcon Infrastructure,Poonam Nagar and Govind Nagar gardens by Hirani Enterprise and a BMC office in R-Central Ward (Borivali West) by Vitrang Constructions.

Gupta said the Santacruz garden project, which began on January 1,2012,was to be completed over six months ago. However, its deadline was extended to October.

“The garden will have a concrete cement aircraft. Certain structural difficulties delayed the project,” he said.

The garden had a fragile replica of an aircraft which was razed after the death of Abhishek Jamjade (8) who was hit by a part of the structure engine that collapsed in March 2009.

The deadline for Trauma Hospital,Jogeshwari, was August 2012. But only 85 per cent of the Rs 121-crore project has been completed. The hospital is expected to be ready by October this year. Developer Relcon Infrastructure blamed the delay on problems in pipeline.

The deadline for the BMC office, which was to be completed last year, has been extended to April 30,2014.
