With the arrest of three persons,the Excise department of the city government on Thursday claimed to have busted a racket in which smuggled foreign liquor was being supplied to posh areas of South Delhi using different social networking sites.
Officials said the Excise Intelligence Bureau also seized 294 bottles of very costly foreign liquors and three cars used for home delivery of the liquor in various South Delhi localities.
Three persons named Manoj Gupta,Ravinder Singh and Vincent Nathan,all residents of South Delhi,have been arrested in his connection.
The racketeers had allegedly formed a community called “Whisky on Wheels” on popular social networking site ‘Face Book’ for home delivery of foreign liquor,officials said.
They also used other social networking sites like Naymz and Orkut wherein they provided telephone number and email ID for placing home delivery orders.
The EIB team had initially recovered four cases of foreign liquor from Safdarjung Enclave following which they came to know about the racket.
The team,also comprising police personnel,on Wednesday conducted raids at various areas and seized the bottles.
Raid was conducted at Vasant Vihar,Sainik Farm and Saket localities.
