Ahead of the UN climate change meet in Cancun, representatives from over 50 nations will gather here for a two-day conference next week to deliberate on mechanisms to ensure clean technologies to tackle global warming.
The “informal ministerial dialogue on Climate Change: Technology Mechanism” will be held on November 9-10 in
cooperation with Mexico and the UN Department of Economic
and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
The international meet which would see participants from around 50 nations would discuss and develop consensus on
the design of a global technology mechanism for development,
deployment and delivery of clean technologies in the context
of climate change to developing countries.
“The ministerial dialogue 2010 will be a follow up of the
high-level conferences on climate change meet on technology held in the capital in October,” a government statement said on Thursday.
“The Union Cabinet (at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh) on Thursday approved the letters of agreement between the UNDESA and the government towards organising the meet with an aim to make provision of necessary privileges and immunities to the participants invited by the UN” the statement added.
The UN climate change meet will be held from November 29 to December 10 in Cancun,Mexico,a year after the nations
failed to seal a legally binding deal to replace the Kyoto
Protocol,which expires in 2012,at Copenhagen.
