DMK MLA quits,to join AIADMK soon

The DMK MLA from Ilayankudi in Sivagangai district, submitted his resignation, charging the state Government of neglecting his community.

The DMK MLA from Ilayankudi in Sivagangai district, submitted his resignation on Wednesday morning, charging the state Government of neglecting his community, the Yadavs. Sources said Kannappan has been staying away from party functions in the recent past.

He was elected on an AIADMK ticket and was the Public Works minister in Jayalalithaa’s cabinet during 1991-96. He soon came out of the party to form his own outfit,Makkal Tamil Desam,in 2002 before joining the DMK three years later.

Kannappan said nothing prevented him from rejoining his parent party. He is expected to be re-inducted into the AIADMK soon.

According to sources,Kannappan hoped to join the state Cabinet after the DMK won the 2006 Assembly elections. However,he was kept outside, apparently due to the pressure from the district-level members of the party.

His resignation is a rude shock to the party, coming at a time when the state Government is battling to contain the fallout of the clash between advocates and police last Thursday.
