PIL wants Centre to deploy Rapid Action Force,NSG at different locations to counter terrorism

The Delhi High court has referred to a larger bench a petition seeking directions to the Centre and the city government to provide adequate security arrangements to check terrorist attacks in the national capital.

The PIL came up for hearing before Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw,who referred the matter to a larger bench saying the petition is of public interest in nature.

The petition filed by Society of Indian Law Firms through counsel Lalit Bhasin,sought directions to the Union Home Ministry and the Chief Secretary of Delhi government to take adequate measures including deployment of Rapid Action Force and National Security Guards at different locations to counter terrorism.

It sought a direction to both the Centre and the state to “permanently” station a battalion of NSG spread over various locations here in a time-bound manner. It also sought appropriate training of police to handle such situations.

Police and security agencies should be trained and equipped to deal with terror attacks,the petition said,noting that a centralised intelligence system should be set up tackle the menace.

The petition wanted a direction to both the governments “to effectively maintain a centralised system of intelligence with inputs from all central and state services…and to provide adequate mechanism for proper sharing and analyses of intelligence.
