In a move which could provide great relief to commuters,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda approved the construction of a flyover at Maharana Partap Chowk in Gurgaon.
Officials said the area witnessed regular traffic snarls,especially during rush hour. Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Department will construct the flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 126.14 crore.
A PWD spokesperson said the flyover will be constructed on the stretch from Signature Tower to Atul Kataria Chowk. It will start near MDI gate and end at the gate of Sector 17.
Traffic is a nightmare here during peak hours. Though it will take a long time for the flyover to become a reality,the fact that the proposal has been approved is in itself a cause to cheer as far as commuters are concerned,a commuter said.
PWD officials said once the flyover is constructed,the traffic on MG Road from local Bus Stand to IFFCO Chowk – will become seamless.
The feasibility study for constructing underpasses at Signature Tower Chowk,IFFCO Chowk and Rajeev Chowk on Delhi Gurgaon Expressway is also being undertaken to make these junctions signal-free.
The spokesperson said three railway overbridges (ROBs) in Gurgaon were also constructed during the present Congress regime.
These had cost about Rs 66 crore. One of the ROBs was constructed near Basai village,second in Hailey Mandi and third in Daultabad village. These ROBs have also come as a big relief to the commuters who earlier had to wait for hours for to cross the tracks.
