J&K: Army foils infiltration bid in Poonch, one jawan killed

After about 30 minutes of exchange of fire, Govind Singh sustained a bullet injury. He succumbed while being taken to hospital.

A soldier was killed in an encounter with suspected terrorists as Army troops foiled an infiltration bid at the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Wednesday afternoon.

Identifying the deceased as Lance Naik Govind Singh, sources said that Army troops had laid an ambush at a site near the LoC after receiving a tip-off about infiltration by terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

On being confronted, the terrorists opened fire and the Army retaliated.

After about 30 minutes of exchange of fire, Govind Singh sustained a bullet injury. He succumbed while being taken to hospital.

The area has been cordoned off and a search is in progress to flush out terrorists, if any, sources added.
