Two men have been sentenced to three years in jail each for trying to kill one of their distant relatives by battering him for over three hours after abducting him and confining him in a factory.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Rajneesh Kumar Gupta sentenced the duo,35-year-old Bhupender Singh and 40-year-old Narender Singh,to jail term after holding them guilty of trying to kill him after abducting him.
“Keeping in view the facts and seriousness of the offence, the accused Bhupender and Narender are sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years each for offences of attempt to murder and kidnapping,” the court said, while also imposing Rs 4,000 fine on each of them.
According to the prosecution on February 14,2009,the duo had forced victim Jasbir Singh to accompany them to their factory, where they tied him up with a telephone cord and beat him up for hours altogether, while also poking him with a screwdriver as Jasbir allegedly used to tease their niece.
Jasbir had lodged compliant with police after managing to flee from their captors’ clutches.
Counsel for the two convicts had pleaded for leniency, saying Bhupender’s wife had expired and he had two minor children, one of whom is handicapped, who are dependent on him. Regarding Narender, the counsel had said he is the sole bread winner of his family and neither of them had any past criminal records.
