Though the NDA government has asked states to stop giving bonus to farmers, BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh has blamed the previous UPA government for the decision. In a written reply in the Assembly, state Food and Civil Supplies Minister Vijay Shah said the Centre had stopped paying bonus in 2012-13 (when UPA was in power), and therefore the state government did not send any request to the Centre again.

Congress MLA Kamleshwar Patel, who had asked the state government about measures taken to restart bonus payment, said, “When UPA was in power, the CM and BJP would call the decision anti-farmer. Now, the state government is misleading farmers and also not writing request letters to the Centre for giving bonus,” said Patel.
