Number of homes with at least one matriculate went up by 10% in last decade: 2011 Census

The data, released by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, said around 122.9 million (49.5 per cent) of the total 248.3 million households, with at least one member of age 15 years and above, had one matriculate or more in this period.

Close to half of all households in the country had at least one matriculate or above between 2001-11, a 10 per cent increase than the previous decade, Census figures released Thursday have revealed.

The data, released by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, said around 122.9 million (49.5 per cent) of the total 248.3 million households, with at least one member of age 15 years and above, had one matriculate or more in this period. A decade ago, the percentage of households with at least one matriculate and above was 39.4 per cent. The Number of households with at least one graduate and above was 41.4 million (16.7 per cent) in India in 2011 as against 23.6 million (12.2 per cent) such households in 2001.
