LJP president Ramvilas Paswan on Tuesday charged the Nitish Kumar government with “failing” to reach relief to the people affected by the natural calamity in Bihar and demanded that the state government declare entire state “famine-hit/drought-hit.”

“The state government has miserably failed to reach relief to the people facing unprecedented drought… It is shame on humanity,” the former Union minister told reporters.

Referring to the state government declaring 26 out of 38 districts calamity-hit (drought-hit),Paswan said it would not suffice.

“The entire state be declared famine-hit/drought hit and relief measures be intensified to mitigating the people’s miseries, particularly poor people,” he said.

Paswan threatened that his party would launch agitational programme and call state-wide bandh if the state government would fail to discharge its duties in connection with tackling the drought.

Claiming that reports of starvation deaths have started pouring in from some areas, including Saharsa, the LJP leader said if any starvation death would occur in the state the state government would be responsible.
