In a crackdown on those playing pirated music on their mobile phones,police have arrested 18 people in June itself on charges of copyright violations.
Punjab police conducted eighteen mobile chip anti-piracy raids after getting alerts from The Indian Music Industry (IMI).
A release,issued here today,said the raids were conducted at various locations including Mohali,Ludhiana,Faridkot and Gurdaspur.
As many as 18 PCs,18 mobile chips,18 card readers,18 DVD writers and other materials used in piracy were seized during the raids.
According to IMI,mobile chip piracy results in a loss of roughly Rs 300 crore to the music industry.
