The Delhi High Court today directed the Directorate of Education of Delhi government to provide poor students to those private unaided schools which have not got applications to fill 15 per cent freeship for poor children in academic year 2009-2010.
The Court directed the schools to either admit the children provided by the Department or face contempt of court.
The direction of the court came after some schools submitted before a Division Bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan that they were ready to give the freeship to economically weak children but they failed to get any admission application from students from category.
The Bench was hearing a petition filed by Social Jurists,a NGO,through counsel Ashok Aggarwal alleging that despite the courts direction to give 15 percent freeship, the schools have failed to comply with the order.
According to the petitioner, several private schools have constructed the school building on government land after obtaining it at a throw-away price with a condition to provide 10 to 20 percent free education to poor people.
However, the Bench had last year fixed 15 percent free education quota to be provided by the schools and directed them to comply with the order from this academic year.
