Congress leader and actor Raj Babbar is set to be elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand.
Babbar Tuesday filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seat which was vacated due to the untimely death of Manorama Sharma Dobriyal, who was elected to the Upper House in November 2014.

He is the lone candidate to file nomination for the seat and will be formally declared elected after the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers, March 13.
At a news meet in the assembly building, Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat said Babbar will plead the state’s case effectively in Rajya Sabha. Babbar, too, assured Congress MLAs that he would raise Uttarakhand’s voice in the Upper House.
Congress sources said Babbar is the choice of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who wants him to focus on organisational work in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
