“A small number of suspected drones” are “being engaged near Samba in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Indian Army said on Monday night, adding that there is “no need to be alarmed”.

A blackout has been announced in the Samba sector, officials there told The Indian Express.

Akhnoor in Jammu also witnessed a blackout as cross-border firing began in Kanachak, Pargwal and Keri Battal areas, officials said.

Authorities in Punjab’s Amritsar and Hoshiarpur have also issued orders enforcing a blackout.

“We have received an alert, and as per protocol and by way of abundant caution, we have done the blackout. There is no need for panic. Citizens have been asked to stay indoors,” the Amritsar District Collector said.

Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur Ashika Jain said in a video message that there is a complete blackout in the Mukerian and Dasuya subdivisions, and power supply has been disconnected for the time being. Jain stated that these precautions are being taken on the advice of the Army.
