Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday extended support to Jammu and Kashmir CM designate Omar Abdullah, saying that the latter can consult him in case he faces problems in running a “half state”.
Kejriwal was in Doda on Sunday to thank the people for electing AAP’s Mehraj Malik as the party’s first-ever member of the legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a rally, his first in J&K, Kejriwal said: “Delhi is called a half-state because the chief minister had limited powers. Now, they (BJP) have also turned J&K into a half state which means an elected government has minimum powers whereas the lieutenant governor has more powers. I want to tell Omar that if he faces any hardship in his work, consult me because I have run the government in Delhi for 10 years.”
Kejriwal said Omar hopefully will give AAP’s lone MLA Malik some responsibility in his government to let him serve the people of J&K in a better way.
He also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying: “Modi ji is giving all the wealth of the nation to his one friend, while I am distributing ‘revadis’ (freebies) among 3-crore people of Delhi.’’
He said PM Modi was angry with him as he has provided school education, medical treatment, electricity and water free of cost to all the people in Delhi, and the AAP government will deposit Rs 1,000 in the bank accounts to every woman in the national capital.
He said that every election has a message for political leaders and containing BJP at 240 seats during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls was a message to PM Modi to mend his ways and serve the country better.
