Concerned over large-scale irregularities in various Commonwealth Games-related projects,social activists across the country have demanded registration of FIRs against all those named by the Shunglu Committee.
They stressed for stringent punishment and suspension of accused government officials for their alleged involvement in corrupt practises while executing several projects during the Games.
“There have been serious irregularities pointed out by the Shunglu Committee against government officials and contractors. We demands registration of FIR against those named in the report for their involvement in corruption,” said Magsaysay awardee Arvind Kejriwal.

He said there is a need to take strict measures to check corruption rampant in government offices and in society.
The Prime Minister appointed high-level committee under the chairmanship of former Comptroller and Auditor General V K Shunglu has indicted several central and Delhi government officials for their alleged involvement in corrupt practises and irregularities that caused at least over Rs 1,500 crore loss to the exchequer.
“There must be strict action against all accused. Police should file an FIR to expose acts of criminal conspiracy and collusion among government officials and private parties,” said Prashant Bhushan,an eminent lawyer.
“The government must consider implementation of Jan Lok Pal Bill prepared by a group of activists to weed out corruption from the country,” he said.

The committee has faulted sacked chief of Games Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi and Secretary General Lalit Bhanot among others senior government officials for their alleged involvement in different acts of omission and commission that led to cost escalation in several Games projects.
“It is really disheartening to note how public money has been looted by certain government officials and private contractors during the mega sporting event. There must be serious action against all those accused in graft. The government must direct registration of FIR against all people named in the Shunglu report,” said Ajay Dubey,social activist.
Noted social activist Anna Hazare has called upon the nation to observe a fast from tomorrow to persuade the government to enact the anti-graft Bill.
