Armed with forensics,UP says no bodies in Rahul’s ash mound

The UP government has rubbished Rahul Gandhi's allegation about dead farmers and rapes baseless.

Uttar Pradesh government today dismissed as baseless Rahul Gandhi’s allegations about burning of people and rape of women in Bhatta Parsaul, rocked by farmers’ agitation on land acquisition issue, and said preliminary forensic reports of ashes collected from the area have ruled out presence of any human remains.

Addressing a press conference on behalf of Chief Minister Mayawati, the state’s cabinet secretary Shashank Shekar Singh said prelimianry forensic reports have not found any human bone or remains .”There are traces of melted synthetic in the ash,” he said.

Terming the charge on 74 people being killed there and women raped as “baseless and an effort to malign the state government”,he suggested restraint over airing views which later require clarifications.

“It would be better if restraint is exercised and such baseless allegations are not issued which require clarifications later”,he said.

The UP Cabinet Secretary said it was “most unfortunate that fake rape charges were made and they amount to playing with the honour of women. There had been no complaint of rape from the women of the Bhatta Parsaul”.

“A detailed report on traces would be received in three to four days”,he said adding the need for forensic test was felt to ascertain whether explosives had been used.

Singh said ash would not have been left behind in the villages had there been any truth in the rumours of people being set on fire.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s question as to why prohibitory orders were enforced in the villages in case things were normal there,Singh said it was promulgated only when Congress sought a permission to hold a meeting there fearing law and order problem.

“It would be in force for some more time to ensure that anti-social elements do not disturb peace and order and the administration there is alert “,he said.

There is,however,no ban on anyone going there and the media is freely reporting from there”,he said.

Counselling Congress not to indulge in “petty politics”,Singh said if the party is so worried about farmers they should work for them in the party-ruled Maharashtra as also Orissa where land was being “forcibly” acquired .

“The chief minister has advised Congress not to waste its time here”,he said.

The UP cabinet secretary said the state is not aware of the packages of Rs 3000 crore for weavers and Rs 7000 crore for Bundelkhand as claimed at the Congress convention in Varanasi earlier in the day.

The state is only aware of Rs 1600 crore for Bundlkhand,he said.

Referring to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s concerns for Purvanchal (Eastern region of the state) as expressed in Varanasi,he said out of the Rs 80 thouand crore package sought by the state were earmarked for Purvanchal and Rs 1100 crore for Bundelkhand, but the Centre besides allocating Rs 1600 crores for Bundlkhad, did nothing in that regard.

On the comments over BSP’s style of functioning,Singh said if the Congress during its 38-year-long rule had worked for the welfare of all sections of society then there would have been no need for setting up BSP.

On the charges regarding poor law and order situation,he said that state government works without any bias in keeping with the law of the land and the fact that its MLAs and former ministers were sent to jail proved its commitment on this front.

BSP government is the only government in the country which has acted so sternly against its own MLAs and Mps,he said.

On Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s allegation on the sale of sugar mills at throwaway prices,he said only those running in losses have been sold through transparent bidding.

“Those who are making such allegations should do so with some evidence”,he said.

To Gandhi’s claims on acting sternly in different scams,he said whatever action the UPA government has taken have come under the pressure of the opposition parties which stalled the proceedings of Parlaiment on this count.

On alleged lack of development,he said the issue had been taken up by the chief minister with the prime minister since the very first meeting she held with him soon after coming to power but the state has not yet received even its share of Rs 21835 crore of the duly sanctioned funds in these four years.

Rejecting charges about BSP promoting Mayawati’s family members,he said the party chief has kept her kin away from politics. “Those who are levelling these allegations should also look at themselves,” he said, adding that the case was the same with the Samajwadi party and BJP.
