BJP to analyse results in Guj,organisational makeover likely

The BJP,which bagged 15 of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, will analyse the poll results in the state and if needed will go for its organizational makeover.

The BJP,which bagged 15 of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, will analyse the poll results in the state and if needed will go for its organizational makeover. The party leaders feel that the BJP’s performance in the state was below expectation as they were hoping to get at least 20 seats, considering Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and strong organisational base of the party.

BJP won 15 seats, just one seat more than what it bagged in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls. “We will analyse the results in detail and try to figure out why candidates lost in seats which were traditional BJP seats,” said state BJP general secretary,Jayantibhai Barot.

State BJP president Purushottam Rupala has also admitted that the party’s performance has been below expectation in Gujarat. A senior leader said that changes in the organization will be made at block, district and state levels in the state unit.

According to the party insiders, apart from poor selection of candidates in as many as eight seats, infighting at local level was another major reason why the BJP failed to perform on the expected lines.
