Centre shouldn’t ‘catch cold’ if Afzal resolution passed: J-K MLA

The Jammu and Kashmir MLA who has submitted a resolution in the state Assembly seeking amnesty for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on Saturday said the Central government should not over-react if the legislature passes the resolution.

Delhi should not catch a cold if the resolution for Afzal Guru is passed by the Assembly, said Sheikh Abdul Rashid,independent MLA from Langate constituency of north Kashmir.

Rashid on Friday submitted a resolution in the Assembly secretariat seeking amnesty for Guru,who was sentenced to death for his involvement in the 2001

Parliament attack case.

The legislator said he was expecting either the ruling National Conference or Opposition PDP to bring in the resolution.

If the chief minister of Tamil Nadu (J Jayalalithaa) can move a resolution (for amnesty for Rajiv Gandhi’s killers) and Punjab chief minister (Parkash Singh Badal) can write to the Prime Minister for Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar,why should there be such a hue and cry on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s tweet on Afzal Guru? he asked.

Rashid said he expected Omar to support him in the stand taken by him on the issue. I hope the major mainstream political parties will come together on the issue, he added.
