The Congress today drew solace from the 54 per cent voters’ turnout in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections,saying the party expects to do “exceedingly well” in the polls.
“We are enthused with high turnout at 53 per cent and hope to do exceedingly well as all sections of the society have voted for our candidates,” the BPCC spokesman P C Mishra told reporters here.
Thanking the electorate for turning out in large numbers,he said that the high voting per cent would do wonders to the prospects of the Congress candidates in subsequent five phases of the assembly polls.
Some important Congress leaders like the BPCC President Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser (Simri Bakhtiyarpur),Lovely Anand (Alamnagar) and Ranjeet Ranjan (Bihariganj) were in fray for the first phase of polling on 47 constituencies out of a total 243.
