Delhi minster in trouble after Lokayukta wants him sacked

Lokayukta recommended removal of R K Chauhan for trying to protect a resort in a tax evasion case.

Beleaguered Delhi Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan could be in for trouble if he fails to get legal redress in the wake of Lokayukta seeking his removal for trying to influence investigations in a tax evasion case.

“We are not at all saying that we will ignore it as it was done in Karnataka. There is a legal process. If there is no change in the situation after legal recourse then certainly action will be taken,” party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reportes at the AICC briefing.

At the same time he sought to differentiate this issue from the Karnataka Lokayukta’s indictment of the BJP government of the state on land allotment irregularities.

He was responding to a query on what sort of action Congress would prefer against Chauhan after Lokayukta’s report as it was seeking resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister whose government was indicted by state Lokayaukta there.

The Delhi Lokayukta recommended the removal of Chauhan from the council of ministers for trying to influence a team of sales tax officers,which was examining a case of possible tax evasion at a resort in South Delhi.

Opposition parties have demanded his sacking.

Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin’s order came in a case pertaining to the minister’s alleged involvement in influencing a team of tax officials to provide relief to the resort in a tax evasion case.
