The engineering student, who attempted to throw a shoe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a poll rally here on Sunday, told the City Crime Branch that he had not preplanned it and the incident was an impulsive reaction. "Hitesh Chauhan has told us that he had not pre-planned the attack. For last couple of weeks he has been going to poll rallies of various political parties and listening to the leaders," Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Crime Branch) Abhay Chudasama told reporters here. "While hearing the speech of the PM where he was talking about what his government had done for development of the country,he lost his cool and shouted 'Jooth bolna bandh karao' (stop telling lies) and stood up on his chair and then removed his shoe. That is when one of the persons in the audience stopped him. And soon the police was there to detain him," Chudasama said. "He (Chauhan) told us he had not planned the attack,it was just an impulsive reaction after hearing the speech," the DCP added. 21-year-old Chauhan is a student of computer engineering at a college in Gandhinagar. "He belongs to a middle calss family and his father Narsinhbhai is a bussinessman dealing in stationery," Chudasama said, adding that he has one brother and two sisters.
